Sixth Form rates of pay for teachers at the 6th Form @ Angel

For the previous 30+ years, teachers at Candi 6th Form College, now The 6th Form @ Angel have been paid the nationally agreed levels of pay. However, in 2024 the college refused to honour this agreement and are still refusing to pay 6th form teachers nationally agreed rates of pay. The 6th Form @ Angel has an excellent reputation based on its specialised and experienced subject A level teachers.  Indeed, CCC uses this in its publicity to attract students:

“.. Students in this programme will be… taught by high-quality subject experts…”

But CCC management want to remove the conditions that underpin the success of the 6th Form by forcing new sixth form teachers on to a new contract with worse pay and conditions than sixth form teachers.  As a result, teachers will be lost to schools and other 6th Form colleges.  A level subject specialists are unlikely to take positions offering pay below that in schools or 6th form colleges or stay for long if there are better opportunities elsewhere.  Staff turnover is not good for students’ learning, nor is the use of temporary agency staff.

What’s Going On

Background

CCC management are determined to level down 6th Form teachers’ pay and condition and impose a worse contract.  Last year they have refused to honour a national pay settlement that was received by other 6th Form teachers nationally.  Management appear intent on freezing 6th Form teachers’ pay until it declines to the same level as lecturers*.  New staff are now employed on FE lecturer contracts with worse holidays, pay and protection on working hours than their colleagues.

*Lecturers are deeply dissatisfied with their pay and are preparing to take industrial action.

Help

CCC management have used every legal device to stop teachers taking industrial action.  Stike action at the 6th Form is expected in early October.
